Description Speckled curlew eggs, sitting so precariously on the ground, hidden in the grass in a nest called a ‘scrape’; this image is from my linocut print. Blue-green on a soft brown background. The lettering refers to the haunting melancholy cry of the curlew, a sound which has inspired poets and artists for centuries and which to me evokes all truly wild places. Because these nests are so accessible to predators this beautiful bird is under threat of extinction. People who like my work usually enjoy the great outdoors, country or coastal walks, birdwatching, sailing, nature and wildlife. In my making process I carve designs into linoleum, roll it up with ink and handprint it building up layer upon layer of colour.
